New CEO appointed to lead AEMERA

On October 1, 2014, the Board of Directors of the Alberta Environmental Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Agency (AEMERA) announced the appointment of Jay Nagendran as the organization’s new CEO, effective immediately.

Nagendran is a former Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of Alberta Environment and more recently Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation before retiring from the Government of Alberta in 2011. Since that time, he has been serving as a Board Member at the Natural Resources Conservation Board, a position of which he has taken an leave of absence after the Board of Directors asked him to step in to serve as the CEO of AEMERA, while it launches an executive search for a permanent CEO for the organization.

With the appointment of former CEO Brad Pickering to the position of Deputy Minister of Alberta Municipal Affairs on September 15, the AEMERA Board of Directors made the decision to seek out and appoint an individual it felt could best lead and help advance AEMERA effectively. The Board selected Nagendran because of his extensive knowledge and background on the environment in Alberta, and his understanding of the history and mandate of the agency. Nagendran’s reputation for professionalism, integrity and openness also made him the ideal candidate to help ensure a continuous and positive approach to advancing AEMERA.
